The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.
