Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
