The accused confessed to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who laced treats with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males aged between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She said Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities once more.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
